Final few days of warm weather

I am so behind on posts. I'm trying to catch up but am just going to have to back date them so that a year from now it makes sense. But instead of worrying about catching up, I'm going to try and continue forward...

Goodbye warm summer days! Yesterday we were in the 80's, today the high is in the low 60's. Kind of a bummer. But I took advantage of the last few days of warmth. Last night Matt and I went on a bike ride (first one we've ever taken in Huxley together), Monday night we went walking out on the High Trestle Trail near Madrid, last Sunday I tagged along with Jess, Chris and Carter to finally check out Center Grove Orchard in Cambridge, and on Saturday, Gable and I went on a long walk at Saylorville Lake with Mary and Callen.

A Sunday stroll gone wrong

How is it that Gable knows exactly what to do to drive me crazy?

We had just finished a lovely little 40 min walk in the park/forest when he found this puddle in the parking lot. Of course I didn't have his kennel in the car or an old towel with me. So we waited 15-20 minutes for him to run around and dry off (and roll around in the grass) before I let him jump in the car. What a fun mess to clean when we got home!

Huxley's Fun Run

Every year Huxley celebrates the start of school / end of summer with PrairieFest. And as part of PrairieFest there is a 5k and 10k run/walk. Our house is on the route and last year we heard some neighbors cheering on the runners while we continued to stay in bed. This year we decided to participate. I signed up for the 5k and Matt and Becky both decided to do the 10k.

Matt and Becky were rock stars! Becky got first in her age range and Matt got 2nd in his!

Happy Birthday! Happy Birthday!

It's still weird to me to have a sister AND a sister-in-law with a birthday on the same day...and born the same year. Every year we celebrate them differently and this year we celebrated them together. Mom, Dad, Jackie, Lindsey, Brian and Cheryl and then Matt and I. (Becky is still in Colorado). We went to Dos Rios for their guacamole (and dinner) and finished with dessert at Lindsey's sweet apartment.

Lindsey has a bass in her apartment because she's takin lessons this summer and my dad immediately drifted to it. He didn't really remember any songs back from the days in his band but he did improvise a bit.

While I feel like its not nearly close enough to my birthday for me to be receiving presents yet, I did. Brian and Cheryl got me a batch of one of my favorite desserts - ice cream sandwiches from Thelma's Treats. They are oh so good and taste even better since I know I'm supporting a local business / my friends!

Oh- we also found this sweet old picture of Matt an Lindsey, circa 1991.

Pics from Andrew & Gilly's Wedding

Andrew & Gilly got married on July 21st. It was a fantastic wedding. Here's a few of my pics from the night. There were many cool details I could share but I I'll have to add those later.

(yes, I just discovered how awesome instgram is. I may have went a little overboard.)

Wouldn't it be great if Matt & Renee lived closer...

This is a frequent statement at our house. While an hour and a half isn't that far... it's not that easy to get together. But when we do, we definitely make it worth while :)  Plus Renee's Matt is a great influence on my Matt because he usually convinces him to ditch work and be fun instead. haha!  :)

Baseball Gossip

Matt really hates baseball. So when we got invited to an Iowa Cubs game last week, it still took a bit of convincing to get him to agree to go even though it was free tickets, $10 in vouchers for food/booze, and an evening out with some fabulous friends. Fortunately, Matt eventually warmed up to the idea.  We had a great night out with friends (which we knew we would have) and we didn't actually watch any baseball (which Matt was relieved about).

Thanks Liz for taking this pic of us!

We started the eveing with beers at el Bait Shop and then picked up Lime-A-Rita's at the ballpark. As you can see in the pic, the lime-a-rita's are pretty big and at 8% alcohol it didn't take long before we all got a bit giggly. We hadn't gotten together in a while so it was so fun catching up in each others lives. Plus sometimes our topics of conversation shifted to the realm of not-so-kid-appropriate which made us even more giggly. I'm sure the people around us were either highly entertained or completely annoyed by us. oops! Regardless it was a great night out at the ball game!

Proof that Matt can have fun at a baseball game :)

Gable still eyeing the baseball that he destroyed within 5 seconds of bringing it home from the game!
